Canyon County Landfill: Pickles Butte Hours, Fees and Rules
The Canyon County landfill is the Pickles Butte Sanitary Landfill on Missouri Avenue in Nampa. It serves Canyon and Owyhee County households, including Nampa and Caldwell, and it is not the same as the Ada County landfill in Boise.
Here is what Canyon County publishes about hours, fees, what it takes and the rules that differ from the Boise side, plus when a crew is the easier call.

How is the Canyon County landfill different from the Ada County landfill?
Different county, different owner, different rules. These are the differences that matter when you are loading the truck.
- Who can use it. Pickles Butte accepts household waste from Canyon and Owyhee County residents only, and says out-of-county waste is not accepted without prior approval. The Ada County Landfill accepts only waste generated in Ada County. A Nampa or Caldwell address goes here. A Boise or Meridian address goes to Ada.
- Hours. Pickles Butte closes at 5:30 p.m. Ada County stays open until 6:00 p.m. Ada County also opens an hour earlier on weekdays.
- Rates. Canyon County's fee for household trash is $18.50 per ton with a minimum fee of $15.00. Ada County's disposal fee is $34 per ton with a minimum fee of $15. Each county sets its own, and both change.
- Saturday traffic. Canyon County posts the noon to 4 p.m. Saturday warning above.
- Vehicles. Pickles Butte does not accept motor homes, buses or any driveable vehicle that needs a license to operate on public roads.
Our Ada County landfill guide covers the Boise side.
What does Pickles Butte Landfill charge?
The county's posted fee schedule is based on weight. These are the figures on the schedule posted on the county's page. Fees are per ton unless noted.
- Minimum fee: the fee is $15.00
- Municipal solid waste (household trash): the fee is $18.50 per ton
- Construction and demolition waste: the fee is $38.00 per ton

The county also takes online payments, with a 2.75% convenience fee.
Verify before you go. Read the schedule itself: Canyon County Solid Waste Fee Schedule.
What can you dump at Pickles Butte?
Household waste is the core of it. Some items are accepted too, but only in an area the waste screener on duty points you to. The county lists:
- Lead acid car and truck batteries.
- Up to 15 passenger and light truck tires, each carrying a fee on top of the weight.
- Up to 10 gallons of latex and lead-based paint.
- Refrigeration units, with or without compressors, for a per-unit fee on top of the weight.
- Up to 10 gallons each of used motor oil, used antifreeze and old gasoline or diesel, from residents only. Oil is not accepted from commercial sources.
- Clean wood, for a reduced rate.
- Televisions, from households only.
- Regulated asbestos-containing material, with prior notification and a waste shipment record. The county does not accept it after 3 p.m.
The county also collects bulk metal and appliances, newspapers, magazines, aluminum and tin cans for recycling.
Trailers and campers. Travel trailers, fifth wheels and other portable campers are accepted if the owner removes the air conditioner first (a refrigeration charge applies). Staff do not go inside, and any tires left on will be charged per tire plus an equipment fee. Motorbikes and riding lawn mowers can go in the metal pile with the oil and gas removed.
Not accepted: motor homes, buses and vehicles that need a license to operate on public roads. For household chemicals beyond the paint and oil limits, explosives, ammunition and prescription drugs, see the county's household hazardous waste events in our hazardous waste drop-off guide.
Do you have to cover a load at Pickles Butte?
Yes. The county enforces covered loads for everything delivered to the landfill, and the posted schedule says "Loads must be covered and/or secured." Canyon County code makes it unlawful to haul garbage, refuse or trash on public highways outside city limits without covering and securing it so it cannot scatter or blow away. A violation is a misdemeanor with a fine of up to $300, and the county's uncovered loads fee is $50.00. The county also publishes a cover-your-load guide on its Solid Waste page.
Drive it to Nampa yourself, or have a crew haul it?
The county's household trash fee at Pickles Butte is $18.50 per ton, which is low. The fee is only part of the cost of a self-haul, though.
- Residency. The landfill is for Canyon and Owyhee County households. If you are clearing a property for someone outside the county, the county wants prior approval first.
- The gate. Closing time is 5:30 p.m., and Saturday afternoons run long.
- The load itself. Heavy furniture, appliances with a refrigeration charge, and anything needing a tarp and straps are real work, and the county's uncovered loads fee is $50.
- Campers and trailers. They come with their own conditions, as above.
If you would rather skip it, the crew covers Nampa and Caldwell. We give free estimates with upfront, volume-based pricing, so you only pay for the space your items take up in the truck. Same-day or next-day service is on offer, and usable items are donated or recycled before anything reaches a landfill.
